Acer Aspire 1810T The Timeline Laptop
• Introduction
Netbooks may be scoring the most laptop headlines of late, but there is another class of machine challenging for the hyperportable crown. People choose ultralowvoltage, or CULV. Try the Acer Aspire 1810T. The Acer 1810T is the European name of the 11.6" Timeline laptop. In the United States, this system is called 1410. Acer previously released the 751 which was a netbook in a very similar frame. This time Acer has chosen the Intel CULV platform, leading to components that are more powerful.
• Features
Featuring the Intel Core 2 Duo SU7300 (1.3GHz, dual core) processor, the Acer 1810T is more than twice as fast as the typical Atom CPU found in most netbooks. It also uses the Intel GS45 Express Chipset, with GMA 4500MHD graphics and hardware accelerated decoding of HD videos. It can also support up to 4GB of RAM, where as most netbooks can only support up to 2GB. Battery life could be up to 8 hours.
• Advantages
Graphics performance is the biggest knock in reviews; you can forget about highend gaming, but it should be fine for most typical computing. Battery life is excellent just under nine hours in one rigorous test. The keyboard is small just 92 percent of standard but reports say it is easy to get used to.
• Disadvantages
The 1810T’s speakers, located on the underside of the front lip, were fine for a small notebook, but their placement caused sound to be muffled if the system was to place in your lap; when the notebook was placed on a hard surface, such as a coffee table, sound was more amplified as it reflected upward.
• Conclusion
The Acer Aspire Timeline 1810T is a fabulous alternative to a netbook. It is not quite as portable or capable away from the mains. However, it is worth considering simply due to the fact that it's more comfortable to use on a daytoday basis.
